Traditional Education v/s Outcome Based Education

Traditional Education

traditional education

The traditional educational system is teacher-centric. ‘What is taught’ is given more importance. The main focus is given to clearing an exam. The curriculum is organized into subjects and is based on substance. Learning is prone to teacher bias and is dependent on textbooks and worksheets. The syllabus is strict and non-negotiable in the teacher's eyes. Learning is the responsibility of teachers, and student motivation is influenced by their personalities. Attendance, homework, tests, and other activities, etc. are taken for assessment.

Traditional education merely passes on to students' knowledge and conceptual understanding. Most of the time, students are unaware of what is being taught.  The lecturers are in charge of dependent and independent learning. Based on tasks, projects, assignments, tests, and other activities, grades are given.

Outcome Based Education

In the Outcome-based education model, the main focus is on ‘What is learned’. Learners are continually evaluated. Learning is integrated and pertinent, linked to actual events, and based on experimentation. The teacher promotes and frequently uses teamwork and group projects to help students learn in an objective, learner-centered manner and to solidify the new methodology. Learning curricula are viewed as guides that provide teachers the freedom to be imaginative and creative while developing their programs. Students take ownership of their education and are encouraged by positive feedback and statements about their value. Evaluations are connected to activities, assignments, assessments, and other components to determine grades. This system is centered on the learner. Learners are in charge of their own independent learning.

Outcome-based education emphasizes specific outcomes. It provides flexible time frames and learning ability. This enables students to develop critical thinking, reasoning, and other vocational skills. The main advantage is that it provides clarity and flexibility. The students are very much clear about their goals to be achieved at the end. This provides a high order of learning. Outcome-based education can be also called Performance-based education.

Safeguarding Student Data in Online Admission Systems

Understanding Teacher Education in NEP 2020

Reforms for Teachers & Teacher Training in NEP The Kothari Commission framed the National Education Policy (NEP) in 1966, recognizing the vital role teachers play in shaping education and national development. Over half a century later, this belief still holds true as the future of our nation heavily relies on the quality of our educators. In 2020, the Ministry of Human Resource Development proposed the New Education Policy, also referred to as NEP 2020. This policy seeks to transform the Indian education system through comprehensive reforms, with a particular focus on enhancing the teacher workforce. NEP 2020 identifies inadequate conditions for teacher education, recruitment, deployment, and service as the reasons behind the low quality of teaching and motivation among Indian teachers. The policy emphasizes the need for high-quality teacher education and intends to introduce a range of systemic changes to inspire young individuals to pursue teaching as a profession. NEP 2020: The...
