The Technological advancement can be seen in the introduction of new devices like smartphones, supercomputers, personal assistant, VR etc. What makes these devices popular and attractive is its easiness to use. And it will continue to generate the ever- increasing customer behavior change. So, we can say that the exponential change in technology is causing exponential change in consumer behavior in consumer expectations.
Expectations can be seen going up very fast and companies are struggling to respond. Companies usually react to those changes. But, there arises a gap in the products of services. So, companies try to put together a plan to bridge that gap. In order to overcome challenges caused by customer behavior changes, companies use Lean.

The Word 'Lean' is originated from Japanese automobile manufacturing unit. When it is applied to Business or marketing field, lean refers to a set of principles to minimize waste and helps businesses to achieve more productive time. Lean focused on eliminating traditional waste while maximizing customer value.

Lean can be combined with digital technology .Lean digital concentrates on eliminating digital waste while maximizing data profit. The Advantage of lean is that it can work in any process- driven environment regardless of the industry. The final outcome of Lean is to identify and eliminate or change any part of a process that doesn't add any value. Lean can be applied in diverse ways. It also enables quicker responses to changing customer demands and results in faster and more robust production, increased quality and lower costs. By offering unique customer experiences, revenue of the company can be increased and sets the foundation of customer loyalty.

This is the new era of lean transformation. The main objective of lean is to reduce waste and driving efficiencies. While lean principles have long been used in manufacturing to drive efficiency and reduce waste, adding digital technologies to lean can take an enterprise to a whole new frontier.

How Digital Lean is going to work?

There are three key enablers of digital lean. They are the following:

  •   Digital lean requires an integration of IT (Information Technology) and OT(Operational Technology, which includes control systems, industrial networks etc).
  •           Standardized processes which include accurate data
  •           Data enabled Technology platforms

Benefits of Digital Lean

When compared to a manufacturer who work with only traditional tools (such as Kaizen), the manufacturer with digital lean can build on its lean foundation and leverage new technologies such as machine learning and predictive maintenance. He can also understand and solve previous business problems and unlock previously unreachable productivity frontiers.
